Playback Bonus at Tropicana and Virgin

Ordinarily I stay clear of recommending promotions involving a playback bonus. I dislike them for many reasons. However, this week, coinciding with what seems to me an unusually early change to Daylight Savings Time, I am making a rare exception.

But first I will tell you about my own experience. I did not go to sleep early Saturday night, as experts recommend, only to be awakened Sunday morning from a deep sleep at what felt like was the crack of dawn. But it was really 8:45 a.m. I told my sister I was still sleeping and would call her later. That was 11 a.m. She was already half out the door.

Later that day I felt so sleepy I had to take another nap, only to find myself unable to fall and stay asleep at night, resulting in a later than optimal start on Monday.

By midnight, which is earlier than usual for me, I was ready to call it a night. Although I set my alarm for 7 a.m. this morning to make sure I wouldn’t oversleep, it was unnecessary. At 5 a.m. I was fully awake.

Why Moving the Clock Ahead Can Make it Harder to Win

Maybe you had a similar experience. Is the sudden switch to Daylight Savings Time leaving you groggy and not at your best? The disruption of restful sleep and your normal circadian rhythms can do that. So if you are not having good luck in your online casino play this week, being forced to “Spring forward” before you are ready could be a contributing factor.

Under those circumstances, your best bet would be not to gamble online at all until your body has had a chance to adjust. But I also know that few of you will heed this advice, so it may be time to turn to Plan B. Opt into a playback bonus to try to recoup some of your losses. If you run into one of those days when you just can’t win, at least two NJ gambling websites–TropicanaCasino.com and VirginCasino.com–will have your back.

Tropicana Online Casino Time Turner Playback Bonus

Tropicana Online Casino fittingly describes this week’s playback bonus offer as a Time Turner bonus. The promotion started on Monday, March 11 and runs through Thursday, March 14.

However, the so-called “Happy Hours” when you could qualify for the bonus are limited to the following times only:

  • 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. ET
  • 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. ET

Make sure your clock has already been set to the correct time. If not, you could find yourself playing during the wrong hours.

How to Qualify for a Bonus

During any given designated time period, you will need to wager at least $20 in order to be potentially eligible for a bonus. Your play can be on any game. If you choose to play during both of that day’s “Happy Hours,” both playing sessions will be considered in determining the size of your bonus,. If your total play for the day results in a net loss of $6.67 or more, you will earn a 15% playback bonus up to $40 (up to $20 for any given session) on your net losses.

How much will your bonus be?

If you only lose $6.67, you will only qualify for the minimum bonus of $1.00. However, if you lose $100, you’ll get a $15 bonus. In order to receive the maximum playback bonus of $40 per day, you will need to play both sessions and show a net loss of $133.34 or more each time.

If your net loss for the day is less than $6.67, or if you win, you won’t get a bonus. But that shouldn’t bother you because it’s a better outcome by far than incurring a large loss, even with a 15% playback bonus.

Receiving Your Bonus

Each day’s play is evaluated separately. Therefore, if you play multiple days, even if you win on one or more of those days or have a net win for all of your play combined, you may still qualify for a bonus. A bonus will be forthcoming as long as a sufficient net loss occurs on at least one qualifying day. You are also under no obligation to play more than one day if that is your preference. However, you will have to wait until 24 hours after Friday, March 15 (or up to three business days thereafter in the event of technical difficulties) to have the Bonus Money credited to your account.

Important helpful advice

The casino website does not stipulate that to qualify for a bonus on any given day, you must play during both designated “Happy Hours.” Accordingly, if you play during the first session and lose enough to qualify for a bonus, don’t play during the second session. Wait until the next day of the promotion (if there is one) to play again.

I say this for two reasons. First, it’s always better to take a break after a loss than to chase your losses soon afterwards. Yes, you are forfeiting the chance at up to another $20 in bonus money, but for the additional amount you would have to lose, it’s not worth it.

The second reason is the possibility that you not only don’t lose but win enough to cancel out your earlier net loss, and as a result lose your bonus! But if you win the same amount or more on another day, you can get a bonus and be a winner, too!

Wagering Requirements for the Bonus

The Tropicana Online Casino Time Turner Playback Bonus works like any other bonus you receive from this casino. You have up to 30 days to wager the bonus 1x on any game of your choosing. Whatever you win from these wagers, but not the bonus itself, is then yours to keep. As soon as you complete the wagering, the casino removes the bonus from your account.

Virgin Casino Mad March Rebound Playback Bonus

The seeds for the real March Madness haven’t even been assigned yet, but Virgin Casino doesn’t care. Like its sister site, TropicanaCasino.com, it’s giving you multiple chances to rebound on this week’s net losses. However, instead of allowing you to play any game you wish to see if you qualify for a playback bonus, Virgin is only extending the offer for 14 designated slot games.

This promotion also started on Monday, March 11 and continues through Thursday, March 14. There are no designated hours, however, so you can play anytime of the day or night that’s convenient.

How to Qualify for a Bonus

In order to be potentially eligible for a bonus, you need to wager a total of at least $50  on any of the following slot games.

Select Games
Family Feud
Deal or No Deal
Secrets of the Phoenix
Tiki Totems
Tiki Island
Tiki Island Mini
Agatha Christie’s Mystery Wilds
Diamond Bonanza
Bubbly Wild
Wonderland
Cats
Cleopatra
88 Fortunes
Raging Rhino

If you wish, you can do all of your playing on one game. Or if you prefer, you can play a combination of games. The decision is entirely up to you. The number of days you play is also entirely up to you.

Since the only bonus the casino is offering is a playback bonus, the only way to qualify is to have a net loss. In this instance, how you fare on any given day is irrelevant. The casino will look at your total play during the Mon.-Thurs. promotion period to determine if you qualify for a bonus and, if so, for what amount.

If your total play during the promotion period results in a net loss of $6.67 or more, you will earn a 15% playback bonus on your net losses up to a maximum amount of $50.

How much will your bonus be?

If you only lose $6.67, you will only qualify for the minimum bonus of $1.00. However, if you lose $100, you’ll qualify for a $15 bonus.  Using the $15 bonus for a $100 net loss as a benchmark, you can easily calculate the size of your bonus upward or downward. For example, with a net loss of $50, your bonus would be $7.50, while for a net loss of $200, your bonus would be $30. Unfortunately, in order to receive the maximum playback bonus of $50, you will need to show a net loss of $333.34 or greater.

If your total net loss turns out to be less than $6.67, or if you win, you won’t get a bonus. But that’s actually a good thing and a much better outcome than having a sizable net loss, even with a 15% playback bonus.

Receiving Your Bonus

On Friday, March 15, Virgin Casino will determine what size bonus, if any, you qualify for and notify you accordingly. The Bonus Money will be credited to your account within 24 hours thereafter (or up to three business days thereafter in the event of technical difficulties).

Wagering Requirements for the Bonus

VirginCasino.com applies the same terms and conditions for its bonuses as TropicanaCasino.com, and this bonus works no differently from any other. The casino is giving up to 30 days to wager the bonus 1x on any game of your choosing. Whatever you win as a result, but not the bonus itself, is then yours to keep. As soon as you complete the wagering, the casino takes the bonus back.

The Bottom Line: Are this week’s Tropicana and Virgin Playback Bonuses worth your time?

The important difference between a playback bonus and other bonuses is that the only way to qualify is to lose. I disagree with the whole concept of rewarding players for losing. Amount of play, not the outcome, should be the deciding factor.

Unfortunately, all bonuses at Tropicana and Virgin Casinos have another negative aspect to them. They’re sticky, or in other words, non-withdrawable. Because you can only bet the bonus once, and then it’s taken away from you, your ability to use the bonus to your advantage is very limited. In all likelihood, if you do win anything from betting the bonus, it won’t be much . When based on net loss, since it’s only a small percentage of said loss, don’t count on being able to recoup more than a fraction of the amount you are down.

The good news is that precisely because you only get to bet the bonus once, it’s completely risk free. You are betting with the casino’s money, not your own, so even in the worst case scenario, where you fail to reduce your loss by any appreciable amount, you can’t possibly lose more. Traditional bonuses are not risk free due to the substantial wagering requirements to clear them.

In summary, neither of these playback bonuses are great. But after an unlucky day, knowing you have a bonus coming not only makes you feel better; you’re getting another chance to win with no worries. Switching to Daylight Savings Time is stressful enough so the timing couldn’t be better.
