Hard Rock AC to Open Ahead of Schedule!

This post departs from the usual reports on new bonus opportunities at the NJ online casinos. In fact, it’s not about online gambling at all, but another development that has Atlantic City politicians, casino personnel, and players more excited about the future than they have been in years. The topic is the soon to be open Hard Rock Hotel & Casino!

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino to Open in AC Memorial Day Weekend, 2018

A few months ago the last TRUMP signs were taken down from a building on the Atlantic City Boardwalk that is about to undergo a complete transformation. In fact, soon every trace of the red lettered TAJ MAHAL will also be permanently removed. In less than a year, a brand new Hard Rock Hotel & Casino will be welcoming players and visitors instead.

Except in the memories of those, like myself, who witnessed the rise and fall of the Atlantic City Trump Taj Mahal first-hand, that chapter of Atlantic City history is a closed story. The once imposing presence of the present President of the United States in Atlantic City is about to be obliterated.

Prior to the election, Trump repeatedly insisted that he had absolutely nothing to do with the circumstances that led to the prolonged strike and ultimate closure of the billion dollar property he once owned. Back in the day, he proudly proclaimed the Trump Taj Mahal the “Eighth Wonder of the World.” However, in December, 2015, he wanted everyone to know that he “left Atlantic City before it totally cratered.”

More importantly, by Memorial Day Weekend, 2018, the new Hard Rock Hotel & Casino will be fully open and operating! Sadly, but unsurprisingly, its neighbor, the former Revel, now known as TEN, recently missed yet another deadline (June 15, 2017 to open just the hotel portion) and appears to be no closer to opening now than a year ago. In contrast, Hard Rock is fully committed to holding to its plans to open on time. Actually, Its latest projection is to open ahead of schedule!

With Hard Rock’s May, 2018 Grand Opening, Atlantic City will once again have at the very least eight casinos, or nine if the casino called TEN miraculously opens first. But I predict the latter will postpone its opening yet again, this time in the hope another casino will be next so it can be officially casino No.10!

Atlantic City is On the Rise

Contrary to President Trump’s gloom and doom predictions for Atlantic City, I firmly believe that this town is on the rise. And, for me, there is no clearer manifestation of this town’s resurgence than the addition of the highly respected Hard Rock International getting ready to operate here as both a hotel and a casino.

Out with the Old–In with the New

Conversion of the 27 year old  Trump Taj Mahal into the rock ‘n roll themed Hard Rock is much too massive a project to happen overnight. So Hard Rock is to be commended for making realistic projections and not misleading the public with impossible to meet promises. According to Joe Emanuele, Senior Vice President of Design and Construction, Hard Rock is now looking at a start-to-completion of time frame of 10 months. Demolition of the to be replaced structures and components is set to begin in July, followed by full construction starting in August.  Accordingly, the planned Grand Opening date is now moved up from the summer of 2018 to Memorial Day weekend.

Since October, 2016, both the hotel and casino, with the sole exception of the still open Hard Rock Cafe, have been closed for business. However, when all is said and done, the now otherwise shuttered property will be transformed into a state-of-the-art casino, hotel, retail, dining, and entertainment facility. After spending $50 million to purchase the property from Carl Icahn, Hard Rock investors Joe Jingoli and Jack Morris plan to spend another $500 million on major renovations and rebranding.

Entertainment and Amenities

Hard Rock Atlantic City plans to stay true to the theme for which it is known worldwide. Therefore, instead of domes and minarets, expect to see lots of guitars and other rock ‘n roll memorabilia. Another certainty is that there will be no shortage of music entertainment, not just on weekends, but every day of the week.

In the months ahead, as we get closer and closer to the Grand Opening, we will know a lot more about what the new resort will offer. For now, some of the planned amenities include two new state-of-the-art concert arenas, additional concerts on the beach, both poolside and restaurant gambling, skill-based slots, betting on fantasy sports, and special gambling rooms for VIPs.

Hard Rock AC is Expected to Hire Thousands

Hard Rock Atlantic City expects to generate more than 1,000 construction jobs plus 3,000 permanent jobs. This is welcome news for many former casino employees who lost their jobs when the casino they worked for closed and have been unable to find suitable alternative employment without having to relocate.

New Opening Date for Hard Rock to Coincide with 40th Anniversary of Resorts

Hard Rock is getting a lot of attention now, as it should. But let’s also give overdue mention to another Atlantic City casino with a great reason to celebrate next Memorial Day weekend. What an exciting time Memorial Day weekend, 2018 will be for Atlantic City, as the moved up opening date for the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino coincides with another landmark event–the 40th anniversary of Atlantic City’s oldest casino, Resorts!  Hard to believe, but it was way back on May 26, 1978 when Resorts Casino Hotel (then Resorts International) made history as the first legally operating casino in the U.S. outside of Nevada. Now, nearly 40 years later, its popularity has not diminished. It is to the Resorts management’s credit that, instead of being stuck in the past, they have made their casino-hotel 21st century ready. By catering to a younger market and offering exciting, innovative amenities like an iGaming Lounge and Margaritaville to set it apart from other Atlantic City casinos, Resorts has positioned itself to appeal to millennials. Resorts also partnered with Mohegan Sun and PokerStars and has become a major force in NJ online gambling.

If that isn’t a great example of running a casino right and reassurance that Atlantic City is on the right track, I don’t know what is. Furthermore, because the new Hard Rock Hotel & Casino’s location on the Boardwalk will be adjacent to Resorts, the shared opening day celebration for one property and milestone anniversary celebration for another will undoubtedly draw huge spillover crowds. As more big events at these properties are planned down the road, both properties and all of Atlantic City should also benefit big time.

Will Hard Rock Have Online Gambling?

There is no definitive word as yet, but considering how big online gambling has become in New Jersey, it would be a big surprise if an online casino is not part of Hard Rock’s plans. Of course, as soon as Hard Rock has a state approved online gambling platform for NJ players up and running, we will be covering its bonuses and promotions right here. But in the meantime, simply knowing that a casino resort of this caliber will soon be part of the Atlantic City landscape is a bonus any casino gambler can embrace. And unlike the NJ online casino bonuses, once this one starts, there’s no expiration date!
